The new generously-sized glazing on the front of the building dictated the unusual 6.5 m width of the new pool. From the living area, the eye can now wander across the glimmering surface of the water, traveling southward toward the open marshland. Two large patios built to resemble a ship’s deck and a new covered lounge area that gets a great deal of evening sun have transformed the former courtyard into an open air living room par excellence. The biological filter is hidden below the wooden decking. Historical construction materials, such as large format Charlottenburg granite plates and a dramatically designed green frame prove how well the demand for both ecological and architectural quality can be combined. From far away the half-opened Dutch door sends the signal “We are home!” and gives visitors approaching from the outside their first glimpse of the swimmer’s paradise in the garden. Here, a summer get-together among neighbors can be coupled with a spontaneous invitation for a quick cooling-off in the pool.
