The ten-year-old garden with its small fish pond was transformed into a new swimming garden embodying all of the desires and ideas of its owners. Unmistakably organized into various functional areas, the Natural Pool is multifaceted, demonstrating a consistent orthogonal visual language with harmonious proportions. The design was limited to only a few elegant construction materials, such as silver gray hardwood for the flooring, fine-grained medium gray granite for the garden walls in combination with stainless steel elements in order to underscore the balanced overall visual impression. The evening lounge area is as elegant as a ship’s lido deck. The couple that owns the pool spends as much time as possible in and around the water. The previous coffee drinking area, which absolutely had to be preserved, has been transformed into a second deck for reading and relaxation. From there, wooden decking along the swimming area takes you to the regeneration area, with the last few meters to be navigated with the help of steppingstones that appear to float in the water. A stylized waterfall empties into the pool from a wide chute, creating a continuous splashing sound in the background. The owners would only consider a bamboo enclosure as a privacy screen around the pool. Its airy texture gives the garden a soothingly understated framework. The aquatic plants as well soften the strict discipline of the design. Nominated for the “2015 Pondy Award” by the IOB, the International Organization for Natural Bathing Waters.
