Ellicar Pools
gb-DN10 4SN Gringley on the Hill, Doncaster
An unused meadow behind the historic Elton Cottage with a picturesque weeping willow offered the perfect setting for a natural pool. As the site has an extremely high water table and is prone to flooding, the engineers devised a crafty solution. They raised the natural pool so that the water surface is more than one meter above the surrounding land. Towards the building, the landscape architects softened the height differential with dry stone walls made from locally-sourced sandstone and built two sets of wide natural stone steps. Wooden decking spans the deep end of the pool and broadens to form a wide sun deck. At the other end is a shallow gravel beach area that children love playing in and a platform paved with sandstone.
