Living on the Water in Istanbul

A residential complex located in Istanbul, Turkey, is comprised of 17 groups of modern apartment buildings with one natural lagoon each at the center. The garden of each ground floor apartment has private access to the shore, some even with their own pier. Several gardens are additionally outfitted with private swimming pools. Each lake is connected to a canal. Two of these canals wind through the landscape and form the backbone of the gardenscape. A network of footpaths and bridges meander along and across the canals, enabling residents to stroll through the park. Lazily, the water flows down over a series of barrages. At the lowest point in the landscape, each of the canals widens into the final lake in the chain. From here the water is pumped back to the other lakes higher up, ensuring a continual flow cycle for all of the bodies of water in an extended cascade. Two underground pump stations keep the water circulating, and micro-organisms perform the biological filtration processes, just like in any other Natural Pool.
